Top Ten Mistakes of Puppy Crate Training
I see and talk to a lot of people everyday that are trying to go about puppy crate training, but utterly failing!
For some reason (I guess it’s human psychology 101) they start to make jokes about it and just say they have learned to live with it not working.
And haven’t we all seen the “reality” shows where the “stars” have dogs at home and they are ALWAYS going to the bathroom inside!
Now most of these “stars” have more than enough money to hire a dog trainer to do it for them!
But you know what……..I don’t think they want to be bothered with it and would rather just deal with it.
HERE is the kicker for me…..wait for it………..hold on………..wait for that darn apple to drop……ok I know you can’t stand the suspense any longer. IT”S EASY!
That’s right, I said it, it doesn’t have to be hard. Or cruel. Or pain full for that matter, for you or your puppy.

Ok so here are the top ten puppy crate training mistakes that I see people making.
1. They fell bad putting their cute little snoogums in a crate. “GET OVER IT” dogs are den animals.
2. They use ammonia based household cleaners to clean up the pee and poop. Guys and girls DON’T do this, it just attracts your puppy back to the “scene of the crime.”
3. Using a crate that is too big. You should only use a crate that is just big enough for your puppy to stand up in and turn around. Anything bigger and they will poop on one side and lay on the other.
4. Not making the crate a pleasant experience for the puppy. Before you “shove” your puppy in the crate and leave (please don’t), Throw some treats and toys in there and let your puppy explore in and out on it’s own for a while.
5. Leaving the puppy in the crate too long. Do I need to explain this one any further??? Puppies have small bladders. Come guys you know that, puppy crate training 101.
6. Not being consistent. Consistency is KING in any type of training. I just saved you $10 bucks, now you don’t have to go out and buy Puppy Crate Training for Dummies.
7. Not taking your puppy outside frequently enough. STOP BEING LAZY, you wanted the puppy, YOU got the puppy, NOW take responsibility for OWNING the puppy.
8. Letting the puppy out of the crate because it was whining, or crying. What would happen to kids growing up if their parents gave them whatever they wanted whenever they whined for it? hmmmm………ever seen a spoiled rotten, manipulative kid with their parents wrapped around their finger??? Nuff said.
9. Not watching the puppy while in the house. Would you let a two year old that just learned how to walk have free run of the house without watching him or her? This will help with numero ten.
10. Wait …
Hold on…
This is the granddaddy of them all…
We’ve all heard this one…
Told to us with a straight serious face…
By the uninformed general public…
You know which one I’m talking about…
I RUBBED MY PUPPY’S NOSE IN IT! (That’ll teach um……..right?)
NO! WRONG! Couldn’t be father from the truth. Now you have an uninformed puppy with crap (or pee) on it’s nose.
Here’s a tip…….don’t do this.
Ok I won’t leave you hangin. Because I would feel bad if I did, and for all the puppies with dirty noses out there.
If you don’t catch your puppy in the act, it’s too late to punish it!
